Zoic Studios adds Chad Wanstreet as VFX Supervisor and promotes Nate Overstrom to Creative Director: Zoic Studios has expanded its creative team, adding VFX Supervisor Chad Wanstreet to its Culver City studio, as well as promoting Nate Overstrom to Creative Director in its New York studio. Wanstreet has nearly 15 years of experience in visual effects, working across series, feature film, commercial and video game projects. He comes to Zoic from FuseFX, where he worked on top series including NBC’s “Timeless,” Amazon Prime’s “The Tick,” Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” for ABC and Starz’s Emmy-winning series “Black Sails.” Wanstreet thrives as a creative problem solver, fusing a streamlined pipeline approach with an impeccable attention to detail, partnering with directors to bring any visual concept to life. DNEG to ReDefine VFX services for rapidly growing markets
Big news today with the announcement by DNEG of the launch of ReDefine! Here are all the informations about it: DNEG, the award-winning global visual effects (VFX), animation and stereo conversion business, has launched a new offering called ReDefine, to bridge the gap between the East and the West for creative services for film and “Over The Top” (OTT) content for streaming. ReDefine will operate alongside DNEG, offering creative visual effects and animation services to expanding international markets such as China and India, as well as other global independent productions. It will bring local experience, top-end creative supervision and scale to these rapidly growing markets, while leveraging the benefits of access to DNEG’s market-leading technology infrastructure. Joseph Bell is joining The Mill as General Manager for the Los Angeles office. The Mill is excited to announce the arrival of Joseph Bell as General Manager of The Mill Los Angeles. Bell brings a wealth of experience from roles at world-renowned companies such as Lucasfilm. Most recently he was the Chief Operating Officer of film and television VFX company FuseFX. Bell held a number of Producer and Executive Producer roles for over a decade, whilst recently earning an MBA from UCLA. Jonny Slow has been named new Global Chief Executive Officer of Pixomondo: PIXOMONDO APPOINTS JONNY SLOW CEO OF GLOBAL VFX COMPANY Company founder Thilo Kuther to continue serving as President Pixomondo, the Oscar-winning visual effects company, has named Jonny Slow as its new Global Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. British-born Slow was previously U.S. divisional CEO of television production group Zodiak Media. He began working with Pixomondo at the Los Angeles headquarters last fall to help set up the company’s next steps for growth, following an investment by London-based Mayfair Equity Partners. After several years at MPC and Industrial Light & Magic taking care of the effects of films like FURIOUS 7, SPECTRE, THE MUMMY and A WRINKLE IN TIME, Mark Curtis has joined the teams of Framestore in Montreal. What is your background? After leaving high school I flirted with being a traditional artist and spent a year at Art School in Oxford before the draw of VFX became too strong and I turned my back on fine art for a career in Film which lead me to apply for a place at Bournemouth University. I started out imagining that I would become a character animator but was eventually seduced by the joy of creating beautiful, polished images and transitioned to Compositing. After completing my undergrad and MA at Bournemouth I started as a Junior Compositor at MPC in London. MPC Film has just announced a great new addition to their VFX Supervisors team with Lindy De Quattro! Acclaimed VFX Supervisor Lindy De Quattro has joined MPC Film’s rosta of world renowned talent. Over the last two and a half decades, which included 21 years at ILM, Lindy De Quattro has worked with some of the best known directors of our time, including Guillermo Del Toro, Alexander Payne and Brad Bird. Since opening its doors in 2018, teams at DNEG in Montreal have already worked on major movies and TV shows including ‘The Kid Who Would Be King’, the Netflix military heist movie ‘Triple Frontier’ and a Hulu miniseries of ‘Catch 22’, an adaptation of Joseph Heller’s novel set during the Second World War, starring and directed by George Clooney. Technicolor London is expanding their front-end operations to support film productions by partnering with Cinelab’s facility just outside of London, less than 30 minutes from the Pinewood, Shepperton and Leavesden studios. By combining Cinelab’s film processing and scanning expertise and infrastructure with Technicolor’s award-winning digital solutions, under one roof, Technicolor will be able to completely service film-based productions – inclusive of Dailies, private cloud storage and Technicolor’s VFX and asset management system Pulse. Acclaimed VFX industry veteran Eric Brevig has joined global digital production company Method Studios as Senior VFX Supervisor and Creative Director. A two-time VFX Oscar nominee and Academy Award-winner for groundbreaking VFX achievements on Total Recall, Brevig is a respected filmmaker who has worked with the industry’s leading directors including James Cameron, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, Barry Sonnenfeld, and many others. Today Encore announced that Senior Colorist Philip Azenzer, an industry veteran with a vast credit list covering television and features, has returned to the company. Azenzer was one of Encore’s original employees, starting as a color assist, learning the craft and building his client base. London based VFX specialist BlueBolt expands its management team with the addition of Jonathan Barson to a newly created role of Chief Operating Officer. In the role Barson will use his 30 years of management experience to oversee business operations and manage day to day operations. The Montréal studio joins eight existing Digital Domain locations including Los Angeles, Vancouver, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Taipei and Hyderabad. 2018 marks 25 years for the global studio. Launched in 1993, Digital Domain now extends its reach and capacity across multiple studios in North America, Greater China and India with a deep talent pool of award-winning supervisors, artists, technicians and R&D teams. Digital Domain Montréal will open in the Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood starting March 1, 2019. Great news for the VFX industry in Montreal, Pixomondo is coming in town! This investment will enable the creation of 180 specialized jobs within the next three years. Breaking ground in Montréal was natural fit for both the VFX company and the city. In recent years, the vibrant metropolis has become one of the Canada’s leading centers for technological innovations, especially with its bourgeoning artificial intelligence sector.
